PROFESSIONAL MASSAGE THERAPY (570 hours)

 

 


Medical Massage Techniques



    Massage techniques of the 570-hour Massage Therapy Program include Swedish, Deep Tissue, Sports, Strain/Counterstrain, Hydrotherapy, and an Intro to Pregnancy and Infant massage.

 

 


Innovative Learning Techniques


 

    HoMMS understands that some students may have a fear of anatomy and physiology so we havedeveloped new innovative learning techniques that make it easier to learn these science courses.Other classes include Pathology and Kinesiology, Ethics, Business Math, Intro to Psycho andSpiritual Care. Attention is given to self-care, body mechanics, wrist and back care, as well as thepsychological aspects of medical massage therapy, boundary setting, and communication skills.

 

 


Clinical Internship


 

    The supervised clinical lab allows students to combine the theory and hands-on practice to enhancetheir learning and gain confidence in a clinical setting. They learn to critically analyze, and assess,and organize a treatment plan. This program prepares the student to sit for the national certificationexam. Students are required to participate each semester in community outreach at health fairs,shelters, local athletic.

 

 


State and National Licensing



    California does not offer a State License for massage therapy, but it is moving in that direction.Since September of 2009, California now offers a State Certification which overrides most citymassage licensing. Most states, except California, require graduates to take a written national exam.This 160-question exam was created by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massageand Bodywork is used to measure the skills and knowledge acquired by the massage student in theirapproved massage school. Most out-of-state therapists will be required to take this exam, Californiaresidents are encouraged to take it for future changes in policy and increased credibility.

    Upon completion of the 570 hour program, the graduate will be eligible to become a licensed massage therapist in a variety of employment settings such as:

Program Schedule


Completion Time:

 

      • Full-time (Monday-Thursday 9am-4:30pm) - Approximately 5.5 months of classes


      • Part-time (M, T, Th 6pm-10pm and approx. every 3rd Sunday) - Approx. 10 months
